When the leaves fall, single people start hunting down a person to shack up with through the cold season. Wine sales spike and illegal downloads of “oldies but goodies” artist like Donnell Jones set late night moods. For all the single people who experience little luck finding a summer fling, they show a promising season as the love market overflows with new potentials. But there are important factors everyone should consider before looking for a winter cuddle buddy.
1. You Don’t Actually Find A Good Mate
Odds are the person you snagged spent the entire summer spiraling out of control and now you’re getting the used version. For the most part you don’t have time to ask the right questions, so you blindly pick your buddy with the goal to get in and get out of the relationship within the season. If the commitment is not made in a timely manner, you risk running to pre-spring single season which is vital “me time” in order to prepare for summer.
2. You Gain Unnecessary Weight
We already over eat during the holidays, eat because were moody and work out less for all of thee above reasons. But being in “temporary love” adds noticeable weight outside of the one to two guaranteed winter pounds. Eating “comfort food” is a sign of a seasonal affective disorder (SAD). A type of depression that typically affects people over the winter. You don’t really want this person but you’re swapping winter cuddle nights for miserable spring “I’m lonely, heavier and now need to salve in the gym before summer” nights.
3. You Don’t Meet Your New Year’s Resolutions
New Year’s Resolutions often fail because you start and end the year in an awkward relationship. Fall and winter is optimal grinding seasons and you have to stay focused. Between the cold weather, loss of motivation and preoccupied boo loving life, you don’t have time to focus on your success or reach your end of the year goals. Plus, you’re going to start off really behind since you’ll be focused on finding a clever ways to get out of cuffing seasons.
4. You Spend Too Much Money
There are too many holidays sucking up your funds and creating their own monthly bill: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s day. And for some reason everything breakdowns in the winter. Your car needs new tires, heater blows out in your house and even your body gives out on you. With tax season at the very end of cuffing season, you’ll be breaking your piggy bank to only pennies in it.
There is nothing wrong with cuffing season when you find the right potential. But most people are using a long-term solution for a temporary problem. Skip the makeup to breakup scheme by purchasing a snuggie and a bottle of wine. Occasionally you’ll have a friend over anyways but certainly not one you have to mastermind out of your life in four months.
