25 Yr Old Launches Beauty Campaign in Kenya

Charity Gachenge, a 25 year old entrepenuer and philantorpist sponsored and launched her first campaign in Nairobi, Kenya. Below is her recap:

On April 23rd, I launched the Love Yourself: Selfie campaign in Nairobi, Kenya . My goal was to bring awareness and help girls in Kenya overcome insecurity and low self-esteem by providing them an opportunity to build self-confidence.

Thirty girls ( although we exceeded that number) were selected from the age of 7 to 11 and grouped together in environments that fostered trust, encouraged sharing and offered mentorship. The girls attended various workshops that increased self-esteem and leadership capabilities. They also participated in educational and motivational workshops that helped achieve excellence academically, socially, morally, physically, and emotionally.

I was asked by a friend what measurement I used to rate the success of the Love Yourself: Selfie launch. Surprisingly, I didn’t have one, or at least I didn’t enforce it. When I envisioned launching an international awareness campaign, my only goal was completion. I am sure that sounds pretty amateur but the thought of 30 girls counting on me was terrifying.

There is something unsettling about having a vision, and watching it grow legs, crawl, walk and eventually run.

Just as I had expected, I was more than terrified, anxious and uncertain. My partner, Jeffery Wilson, made many hopeless attempts to calm my nerves but I knew had one shot at this.

Looking back now I don’t know why I was so afraid. Everything turned out pretty well and was an overall success. I could waste a lot of words in this blog post trying to describe what took place or I could show you. Truly, no words can describe the beauty captured in each photo.

What Can You Expect Next

The Love Yourself: Selfie campaign is going to be bigger and better next year. This was more of a soft launch to show future sponsors my vision. I am looking forward to teaming up with other organizations to reaching 60-100 girls in Kenyan and eventually around the world. Please email, Facebook Message or DM me to learn more about the next event and how you can join us.

I would like to give a big thank you to Jeffery Wilson for believing in me and supporting my vision. He is truly undefinable, a person unable to be replicated.
